About the Wiley Rein WRC-19 Insights Roundtable Series: We will be holding a series of roundtables leading up to the WRC-19 to provide insight into the key issues and decisions regarding WRC-19, as well as their regulatory impacts on the industry.

About WRC-19: On October 28, 2019, the International Telecommunication Union’s World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) will convene in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for four weeks of multinational deliberations on updates to the ITU Radio Regulations. Held every three or four years, the WRC has a large impact on the communications industry – revising regulations, allocating spectrum, and updating regulatory procedures. The WRC process can be daunting – but without the conference, connecting more than 5 billion people worldwide would be impossible. The process has helped to create economies of scale and to make mobile services more affordable.

The economic and national security stakes are high – in fact, WRC-19 may be one of the most significant telecommunications conferences in history. As a result, it is important for everyone with an interest in the wireless industry (both terrestrial and satellite) to understand how the WRC process works and how to participate in that process.
