FAA Remote Identification ARC Lifts Off

FAA Remote Identification ARC Lifts Off

FAA Administrator Michael Huerta announced the formation of a new aviation rulemaking committee (ARC) on remote identification and tracking of unmanned aircraft during operations.  The announcement came during the opening session of the Second Annual FAA UAS Symposium in Reston, VA, put on in conjunction with the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).  The goal of the ARC is to bring together stakeholders from law enforcement, operators, safety, and technology to establish standards for remote identification and tracking of UAS.  The FAA hopes that the standards developed by this ARC will help expand UAS operations beyond their current operating limitations.

Wiley Rein’s UAS practice group can help those interested in participating in this process.
