Information Blocking: How Will the New Rule Impact the Health Care Industry?

Update: On October 29, 2020, the Department of Health and Human Services released an interim final rule extending the November 2, 2020 information blocking compliance deadline to April 5, 2021.

Wiley’s TMT of counsel Joan Stewart sits down with health care consulting counsel Bethany Corbin to discuss the new health care information blocking rule adopted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that goes into effect on November 2, 2020. The discussion includes:

  • Why information blocking is an important topic in the health care industry;

  • What and Who the information blocking rule covers;

  • How the rule impacts health care actors and patients;

  • How this rule changes the current health care privacy landscape; and

  • Common compliance challenges faced by health care actors seeking to implement the new information blocking requirements.
